Why do you do Jiu Jitsu and how did you get started?
Uhh… Okay, I started training shortly after college in 2013. I played volleyball in college and I snowboarded through the winter months. But once I finished school there weren’t any local volleyball leagues and there wasn’t nearly enough snowboarding. So, clearly I needed a hobby.
I had also just started working at a psych hospital and I was thinking maybe I should learn a little self-defense. Anyways these two things led me to an academy called Ryoma in Frostburg MD.
Once I started training I quickly realized I wasn’t going to be able to stop. I fell in love with technique and being in flow. There are few sports that I found that demand your complete attention like Jiu Jitsu does (can’t be thinking about daily stresses while somebody’s trying to choke you.) Mostly I do Jiu Jitsu because it so much fun!
Where do you see your Jiu Jitsu journey taking you?
Already Jiu Jitsu has taken me on countless road trips and many flights around the country to compete and train. I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. I love the traveling, training, learning from new people, competing, and when I’m at my gym teaching. I hope to continue at my current pace and with the same focus.
